To start with it ISN’T if the band is not quality enough to perform a version of the songs your guests will recognize and appreciate. If you can get a band like that, then there is just no comparison with a DJ and the price difference becomes well worth it.

Dancing in front of professional musicians performing just the song you chose for your first dance…well, many brides still smile remembering that moment! Your guests will feel more at ease joining in the fun while dancing and talking with a great band like your parents used to when they were younger. Great live music will let your guests relive their memories at the very same time you are creating your own. It is a traditional American art form and very real generational “bridge” for all your family and guests. Experienced performers will give your reception and the music life!

Tell us about the First Impression Band…
In general, we’ve been playing special events for over 15 years, primarily wedding receptions, corporate and country club-type functions. The basic band is composed of six pieces: male singer/harmonica player; lady vocalist and party instigator; sax/flute player; keyboards; drummer/vocalist; and bass guitar player. We are able to expand upon request, adding additional horns and/or vocalists, if your tastes allow. We’re excellent musicians and love to entertain–so lots of positive energy. We also cover ALL aspects of planning and executing your event, i.e., we not only supply great music, from cocktail piano to the final energetic dance song of the evening, but we consult with you beforehand, giving you the benefit of our experience in planning important details of your reception. Then, the evening of, we act as Master of Ceremonies, making all important introductions and announcements, facilitating your whole event with Sophistication and Fun!

What styles of music do you guys offer?
For cocktails and dinner we perform instrumental jazz and pop at a vibrant, though conversation level volume. For the dance portion we play all styles of popular dance music, from the Big Band era, 50s – 60s rock & roll, Motown, Rhythm and Blues, Blues, country, disco, 80s – 90s dance, and contemporary artists such as Dave Mathews, Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keyes.

What are some of the advantages of having a band at your wedding?
Primarily energy and class. The energy is palpable when a group of tasteful, accomplished musicians perform favorite songs before your every eyes, utilizing their talents to fill your dance floor. The bandstand becomes the classy centerpiece of a magical, memorable event.

Should brides have a wedding band & a DJ?
It depends on the effect they’re after. A DJ can perform two main functions: 1) Keep the energy at peak level during a band break, and 2), Play songs the band might not have in their repertoire.

What do you enjoy most about providing music for weddings?
I love turning a formal, solemn occasion, into a roaring memorable bash; observing the transition from quiet cocktails and dinner, to mild dancing, to finally letting it all hang out, all under the spell of our music!

What’s the most important thing a bride should consider when looking for a live wedding band?
One thing that comes to mind is to trust the band to do what it does best—get people dancing. Brides and grooms often have distinctive musical tastes, and thus occasionally have bunches of songs they “don’t want played at their wedding.” I think it’s important to consider that your wedding guests may not share those tastes, and that the most important thing is for “everyone” to have a great time and feel celebratory. The best events we’ve played have been those where the client left it up to the band to choose what to play when, and thus create the best possible party atmosphere.
